Down's warmth is rated by both fill power and the amount of fill the down provides. Fill power refers to the number of cubic inches a single ounce of down occupies after it lofts and expands to fill the down comforter. Better quality down with high fill power and higher loft, requires fewer ounces to create effective insulation in your down comforter. The higher the fill power, the better the down will insulate, and the more luxurious your down comforter will be.
